Full-time · Remote (US time zones) · Mid / Senior / Staff
Stencil is the new AI-powered platform Page Vault built for trademark prosecution teams. It drafts USPTO-compliant goods and services descriptions, captures specimens automatically, and prepares renewals and audits — work that used to take a paralegal an hour now takes ten minutes, with better outcomes.
Stencil is purpose-built. It's not a general AI tool. It maps directly to the USPTO ID Manual, ties every specimen to a source URL, and produces output that survives examination. It's built on a decade of Page Vault's work as the trusted standard for IP evidence capture, and it's already being used by partners at AmLaw 100 firms.
This is the Stencil team's first wave of hiring, and it's our biggest product bet. We're looking for Product Engineers to help us go from early traction to category leader.
Location & work mode
Page Vault is a remote-first company. This role is open to candidates based in the US. We value deep focus and async collaboration, with two or three in-person team off-sites a year.
What you'll do
- Build core product surfaces in Stencil — drafting, specimen collection, foreign ID conversion, renewal prep
- Design and ship AI features that hold up to legal scrutiny: prompt design, model evaluation, structured output, agent workflows over real legal documents and real websites
- Own evals — Stencil only works if its output survives USPTO examination, so getting reliability right is the job
- Work across the stack (TypeScript, React, Node, AWS) and shape the product alongside design, the founders, and trademark practitioners
- Use Claude Code, Cursor, and similar tools fluently as part of how you ship
- Sit close to customers — IP attorneys and paralegals — and iterate based on what you learn
- Help shape what an AI-native product team looks like as we scale Stencil
What we're looking for
- Several years of experience shipping customer-facing software at a high-quality bar
- Strong TypeScript and React fundamentals, with full-stack comfort (Node, relational databases, AWS or similar)
- Track record of driving end-to-end features with visible impact on the product
- Fluent with AI-assisted development tools (Claude Code, Cursor, or equivalent) and opinionated about how to get the most out of them
- Hands-on experience building AI-powered product features — prompts, evals, structured output, agents — is a strong plus
